One of 7 exclusive Relais & Chateaux properties in the Caribbean, Biras can accommodate fewer than 60 guests at a time.

Its 20 Ocean Suites are situated along the water while 9 Garden Suites are located inland. Two Grand Suites and one Premier Suite enjoy the best views, with panoramic windows and outdoor verandas facing Berchers Bay.

Hotel features include a private beach at Deep Bay,
thatched shade huts, freshwater shower and a covered open-air pavilion with seating. Massages are available in the guest suites and on the beach. Web site: www.biras.com or 1-800-223-1108.

The Walking Trails

Time: 1 hour. Difficulty: 2. Mostly steady climbing, constant sun, so take water. Trailhead: Located in the Biras Creek Hotel Resort on North Sound. If you're not a guest, getting permission from the resort first is a fine idea.

The trails go through scrub that gradually grows thicker as you ascend. All the while you have an excellent view of North Sound, one of the finest boat anchorages in the British Virgin Islands.

From the top, on the Atlantic side, search for land. If you see anything, you have damn good eyesight. The nearest landfall is Africa.
