The North Coast Beaches
Dominican Republic

The North Coast of the Dominican Republic is where tourism began, ironic in a way since these Atlantic coast beaches receive some of the heaviest wave action.

However, that not only makes them some of the better beaches for warm summer days but provides world-class windsurfing conditions that attract people from all over the world.

Further, they are some of the country's most strikingly picturesque playas, the Spanish word for beach.

The beaches start from the North Coast's western end and spread east to the Samana Peninsula.

The Puerto Plata airport is the most convenient arrival location for all of the following beaches.

Playa Punta Rucia - Virtually unknown, far from anywhere

Playa Cofresi - Just west of Puerto Plata, another unknown

Playa Dorada - The Caribbean's largest all-inclusive resort area

Play Sosua - Beautiful spot, well situated

Cabarete Beach - Caribbean windsurfing hotspot

Playa Grande - The easternmost North Coast beach
