Junkanoo Expo Museum
Celebrates Bahamas' Greatest Celebration

The Junkanoo Expo Museum celebrates Junkanoo, the loud and colorful parade held early in the morning on Box Day (Dec. 26) and, on many islands, on New Year's Eve. Get a feel for the real junkanoo at the Junkanoo Photo Gallery.

Like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Junkanoo features impressively decorated floats decked out with people in colorful costumes.

The Expo museum is a treasure trove of exhibits featuring elaborate and festive costumes, all individually made and many worn by revelers in past parades. Most are made out of crepe paper, which makes them far more fragile than those made of cloth.

Some costumes are huge, almost as large as some floats, but each one is worn by a single individual; an advantage of the light-weight crepe paper.

The Junkanoo Expo is located at the entrance to Prince George Wharf and Festival Place. Open 10am-4pm. Small admission fee. Contacts: 242/356-2731
