North Coast Resorts: extend to the right of Puerto Plata. Heading east of Puerto Plata, the resort towns include Playa Dorado, Sosua, Cabarete and Rio San Juan. Punta Cana/Bavaro Resorts: Are located on the coast east of Higuey. This is the area with the most rapid resort buildup. Bayahibe/La Romana: Located in the southeast's corner of the country. Boca Chica and Juan Dolio Resorts are located southeast of Santo Domingo. Barahona Region: Located due west of Santo Domingo, this is the least visited part of the DR.
