Boca Chica
The most popular beach for residents of Santo Domingo, Boca Chica is located near Santo Domingo's international airport.
Boca Chica is a busy resort town with numerous food stands and local Dominicans selling everything from food to personal tours.
The beach is actually a reef-protected lagoon with powdery sand and turquoise waters. Its calm, warm waters make Boca Chica a popular weekend excursion for Santo Domingo residents and their children.
Boca Chica also is known as a shopping beach, meaning vendors are al along the main street parallel to the beach. They sell everything from jewelry and artwork to food and drinks.
Hotels and resorts in all price ranges are easy to find, as are nightlife and restaurants.
Playa Juan Dolio
Situated halfway between Santo Domingo and La Romana, Playa Juan Dolio is a good vacation spot away from those two large cities although day excursions to both are readily available.
Unfortunately, the ocean at Playa Juan Dolio are not as good for swimming as at neighboring Boca Chica, so Juan Dolio beach itself is not nearly as crowded for those most interested in sun bathing . Restaurants and bars located parallel to the beach offer a respite from the sun.
Playa Guayacanes
Located between Juan Dolio and Boca Chica, sandy Playa Guayacanes is popular for boogie-boarding.
