Dolphin Cove, a water park featuring close contact with dolphins along with kayaking and snorkeling, is located near Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios.

Three years in the planning, the 4-acre attraction also contains a jungle walk featuring macaws, snakes and iguanas and a stingray and shark petting pool.

The main draw, of course, is the chance to get up close and personal with the dolphins, which along with their trainers were brought to Jamaica from Mexico. Dolphin Cove offers 3 interaction programs.

The Touch Encounter, the least interactive, involves touching the animals in shallow water.

Slightly more involved is the The Encounter Swim where guests floating in life jackets in deep water have the opportunity to play with a dolphin and to be kissed by it.

The most elaborate, called the Swim With encounter, includes all of the above activities plus assisting the animals in acrobatic performances and being pulled and pushed through the water by them.

Visitors to Dolphin Cove are welcome to spend an entire day swimming, sunning or kayaking.

Goggles and flippers are also available. A restaurant offers a buffet lunch from noon until about 3:30.

The park's operating hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The dolphin encounters are held at approx. 9, 11, 1 and 3 with advance reservations required. Call 876-974-5335 or 876-795-0484.

However, this attraction is expanding and adding so many features that their web site should be consulted for the latest information.
