St. Lucia Boating and Fishing

The fastest way to get anywhere on St. Lucia is by chartered powerboat due to the twisting and winding roads.

At the same time many of these charter boat companies also offer full and half-day deep sea fishing in craft ranging from 30 to 38 feet and troll for mackerel, white marlin, sailfish, kingfish and barracuda.

Cost for these charters can be divided among 3-4 couples to visit St. Lucia's various small fishing villages quickly. A half-day fishing trip is about US$450, a full day US$800-US$1,000 depending on the size of the fishing boat.

The boat charter/fishing fleet is concentrated in the northern part of St. Lucia in Castries and Rodney Bay.

Operators include: BBC Yachting in Rodney Bay offers half and full-day fishing charters with a variety of power boats.

Captain Mike’s just outside of Castries harbour offers both charter fishing and whale watching tours.

Hackshaw’s Boats at Vigie in Castries is another long-time option for sport fishing.

Things to Know

Charter operators typically furnish all tackle, soft drinks, beer and even rum punch. However, it is usually up to you to bring your own food, especially for a full-day charter. Ask in advance to be certain who is responsible for what.

The charter boat usually keeps the fish unless you make other arrangements in advance.  Trolling is often more expensive than bottom fishing becuase of the greater fuel consumption.
