Best time to visit Nassau
and Paradise Island is?
Nassau and Paradise Island are meant to be enjoyed out
of doors, during good weather, and that can be counted
on only part of the year. Typically, Nassau claims more than 315 days of sunshine each year with an alternating climate of alternating wet and dry weather.
Remember, though, the Bahamas are located
just east of Florida, which places them in the Atlantic Ocean and hundreds of miles north
of the Caribbean. This is not a tropical or semi-tropical region. The passing Gulf Stream typically keeps temperatures in a fairly even range but occasionally Nassau does get clobbered by modified polar air that pushes temperatures to record lows.
The most recent extreme occurred January 19, 1977, when Nassau and other parts of the northern Bahamas actually experienced snow flurries. These cold fronts also bring high winds that may last for days, making water activities difficult if not impossible.
Typical Nassau winter temps seldom fall much below 60°F with the afternoons typically reaching about 75°F. Winter water temperatures can be uncomfortably brisk, moving into the low 70s. (See Bahamas Water Temperatures)
The Rainy Months
Only an average of 2 inches of rain fall each month from December through March. The rainy season technically starts in June and last through October, with an average of 7 inches each month. The most active hurricane period typically is from September 1 to November 1, which is why prices for hotels and Bahamas cruises sometimes are a bargain.
