THE Dominican Beer

In the Dominican Republic there is only one beer and that is Presidente. Not that you'd likely want another after a couple of these due to their high alcohol content.

Brewed in Santo Domingo, Presidente is the most popular Dominican beer, more easily found that bottled water and soft drinks.

In fact, Presidente has monopolistic agreements in some areas as the only beer sold at convenience and liquor stores.

This light-tasting pilsner with 6% alcohol is usually served ice cold.

There is a U.S version of Presidente with only 5% alcohol that Dominicans swear tastes nothing like the beer produced at home.

However, I'll gladly take a Presidente on or off island. It really is a damn good beer, perhaps the Caribbean's best.
