Length: About 1.5 miles. Time: 1.5-hours round trip. Difficulty: 2. Trailhead: The dirt road begins off Route 63 almost four miles from Frederiksted.

This road has so many interesting plants that cruise ship passengers are sometimes brought here on hikes. It's shady much of the way. First, pass an old village cemetery on the left and at about 0.8 miles you'll reach ruins the sugar factory and animal mill on the left. A self-guided walk with interpretive signs explores the ruins.

To reach the top of Mount Washington (also called Frenchman Hill), return to the road, Almost immediately you'll come to a three-way fork. Continue straight ahead. In less than 0.25 miles there is another three-way fork. Once again take the middle road. You'll follow the ridge line through moist forest, ending with a good panoramic view of the area.
